It was supposed to be so different. Sturdy old Scranton Joe Biden at the helm. Honesty, decency, unity.
What a joke. Lawyers for Biden have now all but confirmed that he illegally possessed classified material. The American people have serious questions — and if Biden can’t or won’t answer them, he should not be president of the United States.
It would be one thing if Biden proclaimed his own innocence, but he doesn’t. He hasn’t said he was never holding America’s secrets in his garage: his lawyers admit it. If a mid-level Pentagon employee played so fast and loose, they’d be saying a tearful goodbye to their kids before a prison stint. What’s going on here?
Here’s an extremely abridged list of the questions the commander-in-chief must answer: why didn’t he demand to know the contents of the classified documents? Why were his personal lawyers conducting the search? Did he ever remove classified documents from the White House? Does he recollect the box in his garage in question? Have renovations been done to the house or garage in the last six years? The list goes on and on and on.
This isn’t just a White House communications problem. They have known the details of this sordid story for weeks. Classified documents at Joe’s Chinese-funded think tank, classified documents sitting by his fancy Corvette, classified documents here, there and everywhere. It’s an incredible scandal.
Celebrated modern artist Hunter Biden listed the home where top secret documents were found in Delaware as his primary residence. He was paying rent (a lot of it) to the Big Guy to reside in the proximity of our nation’s secrets. This isn’t some kind of novel or TV show — this actually happened.
Now the White House says they have no visitor logs, no idea who was in that Small Wonder State residence. In fairness, it’s hard to keep track of that many crack dealers.
Let’s break this down. The White House has known since November 2 that Biden had these documents in his DC think tank office. Voters didn’t know that when they went to the polls on November 8. Two weeks later, the White House found out there were classified documents in Delaware too. Still radio silence.
When CBS News broke the story, Biden had to address it — but he still misled by virtue of omission. He acted like he was shocked top secrets were in his office — but did not mention those in his home even though he’d been aware of them for weeks. That’s just lying. You can’t dress it up pretty. The president of the United States lied to us. And he needs to tell us why he lied to us.
Then there’s the curious situation of Biden’s lawyers telling him not to ask what the documents are. Are you serious? How better to resolve the situation than for Biden to be told what was there and to give us the innocent explanation?
And what is the innocent explanation? Karine Jean-Pierre and the White House comms team have had over a month to prepare their story. It still has more holes in it than a moth-eaten sweater. Did the president break the law or didn’t he?
There is no legitimate reason why Biden cannot address all of these concerns with the American people. He cannot hide behind the flimsy shield of “there is an ongoing review.” So what? Biden coming clean with everything he knows doesn’t compromise that review; it doesn’t put undue influence on the Justice Department. That’s absurd.
The problem is that, right now, it looks a whole lot like Joe Biden isn’t talking because he doesn’t know when the next shoe will drop and he’s afraid of getting caught in a lie. It’s not good enough. The president is putting his own potential legal liability above honesty with the public.
It wasn’t supposed to happen this way. Biden was supposed to be the restoration of normalcy. Instead, he’s led us into an enormous presidential scandal. The liberal media treats this as a process or political story. They want to critique the coverage instead of covering it. But it won’t work. Ultimately it’s all about why Joe Biden had America’s secrets in his Delaware garage.
Biden needs to start talking or, according to his own lofty standards, he should resign. Today. Were the shoe on the other foot, he’d be the first to call for it. He is a distraction now — and that’s exactly what he promised not to be.
Say it ain’t so, Joe. Come clean with the American people — or let us have a president who will.
