Swifties rejoice! Or, at least, stop self-harming. Taylor Swift and 1975 singer Matt Healy are officially over. A friend close to the couple told TMZ that Taylor is in fact “single” again. It’s still unclear exactly why they’ve now split up.
A source told Entertainment Tonight that: “Taylor and Matty broke up. They are both extremely busy and realized they’re not really compatible with each other.
“The source added that “Taylor’s friends want what’s best for her and aren’t shocked that their relationship fizzled out since she recently got out of a long-term relationship.”
It was a pretty wild romance. Just last month, Matty was spotted at all three of Swift’s Nashville concerts. In a move that would make Pete Davidson proud, he swooped right after the news broke that she and Joe Alwyn had split after six years together.
For a short dalliance, it didn’t come without its drama. Healy was labeled “problematic” by Swift’s mentally ill fanbase, with some of them even branding him a fascist. Healy came under fire in February while appearing on The Adam Friedland Show podcast, whose hosts made derogatory jokes at the expense of rapper and recent Swift collaborator Ice Spice. The episode was resurfaced and recirculated by Taylor’s “stans” months later.
Matty laughed along with the hosts while he told a story about masturbating to a porn franchise called “Ghetto Gaggers.” He later shrugged off the backlash, telling the New Yorker that the criticism he received was “virtue-signaling.”
Matty’s only reaction to the controversy was on stage, when he said to the crowd: “Is it all a bit? Is it sincere? Will he ever address it?” Adding, “All of these questions and more will be ignored in the next hour. Ladies and gentleman, this is the 1975.”
With the relationship coming to a sudden end, the remaining question is: what will Swifties find to cry about now?
